Every throw and table runner is woven on a traditional pit loom by a single artisan or a small cluster. The weft is passed by hand, which means each piece carries slight variations in tension and texture. This is not a flaw; it is the signature of handloom work. Machine-made fabric looks uniform, while our pieces show subtle rhythm in the weave that becomes more noticeable the longer you use them.
We use plant-based dyes such as indigo, madder root, pomegranate rind, and iron mordants. These colors are fixed with low-impact finishing processes rather than harsh chemical binders. Expect gentle fading over the first few washes, especially with indigo, which is part of the material's character. After that, the tones settle and stay remarkably stable. We recommend cold washes and shade drying to keep the depth of color for years.
Block-printed cushion covers start with a woven base fabric, usually organic cotton, that gets stamped with carved wooden blocks dipped in natural dye. The pattern is applied on top of the weave. Handwoven covers, by contrast, have the pattern built into the fabric itself through colored threads in the warp or weft. Both are artisan-made, but they differ in texture and how the design ages. Block prints are flatter and more graphic; woven patterns have a raised, tactile quality.
Wash bedding in cold or lukewarm water on a gentle cycle with a mild, plant-based detergent. Avoid bleach and fabric softeners, which coat the fibers and reduce breathability. Custom colors depend on the season, because natural dyes come from harvested plants. If you need a specific size for a dining table or a bed, write to us before ordering and we will confirm whether the current batch can accommodate it. Custom pieces take two to three weeks longer.
Gift-ready items are wrapped in unbleached cotton cloth and tied with a jute cord, with a small card noting the weaving cluster and dye source. We do not use plastic packaging. If you are sending a gift directly, we can include a handwritten note with your message. Just mention it at checkout or in an email after placing the order.
