Before placing a first order, most people want to know how the process works, what the fabrics feel like, and how much variation to expect from handcrafted pieces. This post collects the questions that come up most often in our conversations, with honest answers about lead times, dye lots, and care routines.
The first thing clients usually ask is whether the colors will match what they see on screen. Natural dyes behave differently from synthetic ones. Indigo deepens with each wash, madder root shifts slightly depending on the season it was harvested, and unbleached ivory can carry faint tonal differences across batches. We photograph every piece in soft daylight, but screens vary. If you are pairing a throw with existing upholstery, order a small swatch set first. It costs little and removes most of the guesswork.
Another common question concerns durability. Handloom textiles are not fragile heirlooms kept in a cupboard. They are made to be used daily. A block-printed cushion cover will soften after the first few washes, and the print will settle into the weave rather than fade away. Organic cotton bedding breathes well in warm weather and gains a relaxed, lived-in feel over time. The low-impact finishing we use skips harsh chemicals, so the fabric starts slightly stiffer and becomes more supple as you use it.
People also ask about lead times. Because our weaving clusters work in small batches, a standard order ships within two to three weeks. Custom colorways or larger quantities take longer, especially if the natural dye needs to be prepared fresh. We do not keep large warehouses of finished goods, which means less waste and more attention per piece. If you have a deadline, tell us upfront. We can often adjust the schedule or suggest a piece that is already in production.
Finally, clients want to know how to care for handcrafted textiles. The short answer: wash cold, use mild detergent, dry in shade. Avoid bleach and tumble drying. Block-printed fabrics should be washed inside out for the first few cycles to protect the print. With simple care, these pieces hold their character for years and become part of the home's daily rhythm rather than a display item.
